What is Griseofulvin Tablet?
Griseofulvin Tablet is an anti fungal medicine that is used in the treatment of infections caused by fungus such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch as well as fungal infections of the scalp, fingernails, or toenails. It is sold under various trade names, a couple of which are Fulvicin and Grisovin (made by GSK).
Important Information about Griseofulvin Tablet
Do not take Griseofulvin anti fungal medicine (Fulvicin, Grisovin) if you are allergic to it, or if you have certain conditions like liver failure, porphyria, or if you are pregnant (consult your doctor). You must notify your doctor in advance if you are suffering from liver disease, lupus, or if you allergic to Penicillin.
Taking Griseofulvin can make you prone to sunburn more easily. Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds as far as possible while taking this medicine. If you do venture out in the sun, wear protective clothing and use a good sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher. Also avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
You must use Griseofulvin for the entire prescribed period, even after all the symptoms have disappeared. The infection may still not be wiped out from your body. Not taking this medicine as prescribed can worsen your condition and cause an infection which is drug resistant.
Griseofulvin is an FDA pregnancy category C drug. It is not known whether it can harm an unborn baby if taken while being pregnant. It is also not known if this medicine can pass into breast milk and harm a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breast feeding.

Side effects of Griseofulvin include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, confusion, fatigue, sleep disturbance, loss of co-ordination, liver problems, disorder of the peripheral nerves that causes weakness and numbness (peripheral neuropathy), rash, decreased number of white blood cells in the blood, or sensitivity towards light leading to a rash. If any of these conditions persist or deteriorate further, stop using this medicine and get medical attention right away.
Griseofulvin may rarely cause a serious side effect. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effect after taking this medicine.
